Abortion – The Third Rail of Politics
This is our Great Granddaughter due to arrive in October. She is not a BLOB OF TISSUE as abortionists in Planned Parenthood facilities would like you to think. She is tiny and priceless in our eyes.
Understanding well that abortion is a subject close to the third rail of politics—that carries a high voltage and is extremely dangerous—but being of sound mind and body I dare to jump into the fray. I stand against abortion—first, second or third trimester abortions—not because I’m Catholic, but because I am a mother. Every woman, pro-life or pro-choice, who has given birth knows the surrealism of seeing for the first time the child she has carried and felt in her womb for forty weeks. It is an overwhelming exhilaration when the time of wondering is ended, and she cradles her child in her arms, kisses the tiny head and counts the precious little fingers and toes. I have experienced five such awesome moments in my life: The births of our four children and the day I married their father—which came first I should add.
An event when we were living in South Korea made it clear to me that not everyone felt the same as I did regarding the sanctity of life. Vern came home very distraught one evening; a General Motors vehicle had run over and killed a Korean child. The parents went immediately to the G.M. offices in Seoul to demand money in compensation for the death of their child. I don’t know how immediately, but the way Vern understood was that the child was left in the street. It seemed so callous to me. Lives Matter! All Lives Matter!
We got back to the United States just after the Roe v Wade decision. Call me naïve, but the word abortion was not part of my vocabulary until then. BUT—in January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court found that a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her pregnancy deserved the highest level of constitutional protection. The decision was announced in Roe v Wade, settling a challenge to a Texas statute that made it a crime to perform an abortion unless a woman’s life was at stake. That decision legalized abortion nationwide within the first trimester of a woman’s pregnancy. States were permitted to adopt restrictive laws in accordance with respecting the mother’s health during the second trimester, but abortion was banned outright during the third trimester.
In this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_MUUvcvjEg, Norma McCorvey who filed the law suit under the pseudonym “Jane Roe” resulting in the Roe v Wade decision, shares some of the true story. Although she never had the abortion, she realizes today that she was nothing more than a pawn for the PRO-ABORTION FEMINIST MOVEMENT represented by her attorney, Sarah Weddington, who used the case all the way to the Supreme Court to invalidate every pro-life state law in the nation. In 1998 and 2005 McCorvey testified before Congress about the injustices of abortion and the deceit underlying Roe v. Wade. To this day she remains dedicated to reversing the Supreme Court case that bears her fictitious name, Jane Roe.
We’ve heard the words SLIPPERY SLOPE in relation to many controversial issues, but it rang true when in February of 2001 the Illinois Senate Bill 1095 was introduced. Barack Obama, as an Illinois Senator voted against all three of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act Bills. It was the first of three attempts to pass the Born Alive Infants Protection Act that provided that “a live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.” Three times it was introduced and defeated: Illinois Senate Bill 1095 in February 2001, Senate Bill 1662 in January 2002, and finally Senate Bill 1082 in February 2003.
Jill Stanek’s testimony before the Illinois Health and Human Services Committee was the catalyst for the introduction of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act. She worked as a registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery Department of Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, and was distressed by what she saw: that babies were being aborted alive and allowed to die in a soiled utility room. In her testimony she expressed her distress at learning of the method that Christ Hospital used to abort—induced labor abortion—now also known as live birth abortion. In this particular abortion procedure doctors do not attempt to kill the baby in the uterus. The goal is simply to prematurely deliver a baby who dies during the birth process or soon afterward—abandoned in a utility room. She told of her heart-wrenching experience with a Down Syndrome baby:
“One night, a nursing co-worker was taking a Down’s syndrome baby who was aborted alive to our Soiled Utility Room because his parents did not want to hold him, and she did not have time to hold him. I could not bear the thought of this suffering child dying alone in a Soiled Utility Room, so I cradled and rocked him for the 45 minutes that he lived. He was between 21 and 22 weeks old, weighed about 1/2 pound, and was about 10 inches long. He was too weak to move very much, expending any energy he had trying to breathe. Toward the end he was so quiet that I could not tell if he was still alive. I held him up to the light to see through his chest wall whether his heart was still beating. After he was pronounced dead, we folded his little arms across his chest, wrapped him in a tiny shroud, and carried him to the hospital morgue where all of our dead patients are taken.” At the signing ceremony for the Federal Born-Alive Infants Protection Act on August 5, 2005, President George W. Bush named Stanek in his speech, publicly thanking her for being in attendance. She had testified twice before the Judiciary Constitution Subcommittee of the U.S. House of Representative, and in several state legislatures.
It’s incomprehensible that Stanek’s story did not tear at the foundation of every pro-choice woman’s conscience. Sadly it didn’t! And the SLIPPERY SLOPE reared its ugly head again last week.
The Center for Medical Progress, a pro-life 501(c)3 non-profit organization, went undercover videotaping several meetings with Planned Parenthood with actors posing as buyers for intact fetal specimens. The two tapes released last week are damning, as two Planned Parenthood doctors in separate meetings spoke cavalierly about harvesting and selling organs from aborted babies.
In the first video, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, the Senior Director of Medical Services for Planned Parenthood, goes into great detail about ordering specific body parts and how the abortionist goes about ensuring those parts are not damaged in the abortion. She spoke of using the guidance of ultra sound, “And for that reason, most providers will do this case under ultra sound guidance, so they’ll know where they’re putting their forceps.” Nucatola says the doctor has to be “just kind of cognizant of where you put your graspers, you try to intentionally go above and below the thorax, so that, you know, we’ve been very good at getting heart, lung, liver, because we know that, so I’m not gonna crush that part, I’m going to basically crush below, and I’m gonna crush above, and I’m gonna see if I can get it all intact.”
This monstrously cold conversation—CHOPPING BABIES UP AND SELLING THEIR PARTS—is carried on as Nucatola sips her wine and stabs at and chews her salad. It made me ill!!!
The second undercover video shows Dr. Mary Gatter, Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Medical Directors’ Council President, haggling over payments for intact fetal specimens and offering to use a LESS CRUNCHY TECHNIQUE to get more intact body parts. Near the end of the lunch Gatter said, “It’s been years since I talked about compensation, so let me just figure out what others are getting, if this is in the ballpark, it’s fine, if it’s still low then we can bump it up. I want a Lamborghini” followed by laughter. It was a tasteless joke!
As I write, a third and extremely graphic has been released. Not only does it show workers laughing while talking about how they get more money if they harvest more organs, but it shows an aborted baby in a pie dish with the lab tech separating distinct body parts.
Why am I spending so much time talking about these evil and gruesome videos? Because I’m not sure that everyone has seen or read about these atrocities. The network news, CBS, NBC, and ABC spent little time on the first two videos and none on Tuesday’s video. Planned Parenthood’s newly hired PR firm encouraged a media blackout and subsequently the networks didn’t touch the third video. There is more outrage at the networks over the Minnesota dentist killing Cecil the Lion than killing babies and selling their parts.
We have a right to know what Planned Parenthood is doing with the half a billion dollars they receive from taxpayers. This issue is difficult at best; those who believe life begins at conception feel an unborn child deserves the same legal protections as an adult, while others rationalize life begins at birth and that laws restricting abortion interfere with the right of a woman to decide what is in her own best interests.
This is what I think:
ABORTION IS LITERALLY KILLING AMERICA WHILE IT IS KILLING OUR CONSCIENCES.
