Hi Marlene. Enjoying the blog. Here’s the bigger problem- as I see it. We are wired to behave selfishly about the consequences of things we don’t understand or can hold at arms length. I certainly wouldn’t have been nearly as appalled by and tuned into all of this if I wasn’t a mother. As a pregnant teenager, I would have been A) too afraid of my parents/peers reaction to a pregnancy and B) too selfish about my own future to think about a fetus as a human. And that holds true for some portion of my adulthood too. And admitting that makes me sad. You’re right, having a child changes you, and you think about all things (including abortion) in a different light. As long as there is demand, there will be supply. People need to know about their options and be compelled to use them. Abortion, unless its to save your life, (which is a whole other dimension to the debate) is a selfish act. And we humans are a selfish bunch. Changing human behavior is so hard- whether you bring politics into it or not. Love you!

    • Thank you Kelley. You have added a dimension to this discussion that I didn’t cover. While raising the four of mine, I often worried about reacting to a surprise pregnancy. I hoped that I would be able to convince the two involved that adoption would an unselfish altruistic act that they would never regret, but who knows – by the grace of God, I never had to face that situation. When I think about the difficulty couples have in the adoption process, my heart sinks at the thought of all those babies who could have been delivered and given a wonderful loving life. Thanks again – Love you too!

I’m speechless. We must pray harder. Thank you for all the detailed information.

    • I appreciate so much that you took time to read and comment. Was watching the news this morning and Harry Reid, after the vote to defund planned parenthood said, “The Republicans have lost their moral compass.” I’m going to waste my time and send him a blast about who it is who has actually lost their moral compass. Yes we cannot forget the power of prayer, but remember – “Work as if everything depends of you, pray as if everything depends on God.”
